However, to use the Phone Numbers feature, you'll need to have a Twilio account connected to your CRM. So, if you haven’t done it already, create a Twilio account. For this article, we’ve already connected a Twilio account.
Ready to add your phone numbers? Let's get started.
Click Settings at the bottom left corner of your left menu and then click Phone Numbers on the new left menu that appears.
This view is where you'll set up new numbers and customize how they'll be used.
To set up a new phone number, click Add Number in the top right.
Then, in the pop-up, select the country of your phone number and enter your desired area code. If you're not sure which area code you want, you can still add a number. Simply search without adding an area code. All available area codes and numbers will be returned.
Next, click Search.
In this example, we’re setting up a United States phone number in the 251 area code. When search is clicked, all the available numbers from your desired area code will be returned.
Here, you can see we've selected a number. When you click on the button to the left of the number you want, Close and Save buttons will appear at the bottom of the pop-up. Be sure to click Save to add your number.
After being added, your phone number will appear in your main Phone Numbers Settings view.
Now, let's talk about what you can do with your numbers.
If you have multiple numbers, you'll first want to select one as the default for outgoing calls by clicking the button to the left of the number.
The fourth column in the view is Forwarding Number. For incoming calls, you can specify a different forwarding number for each phone number you've added.
To add a forwarding number or make other changes to how your numbers work, click the green Edit button to the right.
This opens a pop-up with options for the selected number:
Here, you can give your phone number a specific name as well as specify which number calls to this number should be forwarded to.
There are six options below the Forward Calls To field that can be enabled:
Pass Called Number - if you want the caller ID to be the number dialed by the caller instead of the number being forwarded.
Call Connect - requires that the receiver press a key in order to connect the call, which results in higher accuracy for call reporting.
Whisper Message - allows you to record a custom message for incoming calls to this number.
Call Recording - if enabled, Twilio will record calls to this number. You can also set up an automated message to be played before the conversation begins. This lets the other party know that the call is being recorded.
Incoming Call Timeout - set a maximum duration for incoming calls to ring before triggering voicemail.
Outbound Call Timeout - set a maximum duration for the call to ring before triggering voicemail.
Enable the options you prefer for your Phone Numbers feature.
After customizing your Phone Number’s features, click Update to save your changes.
If you ever need to delete an added phone number, simply click the trash icon to the right of the Edit button on the main Phone Numbers Settings view.
Congratulations! Your phone numbers are now set up and ready to use!
